New backend for matchmaking, leaderboards, cloud saves, etc.
I have no memory ofwriting aboutthe plan forDead Rising 2andDead Rising 2: Off the Recordto drop Games for Windows Live in favor of Steamworks, but I did so last year and slipped in a gif ofResident Evil‘s Chris punching a boulder. Which, dang, can’t use that sucker anytime soon.
Moving day is tomorrow, March 17. Capcom hasfull instructionsforDead Rising‘s GFWL-to-Steamworks transition but, in short: it’s a free update if you already own either title on Steam, and there’s going to be a save data / achievement transfer tool available soon.

If you ownDead Rising 2and/orOff the Recordthrough the digital Games for Windows Live marketplace, Capcom says it “cannot accommodate a Steamworks transfer […] as there is no authentication option available. However, all of our applicable GFWL titles continue to support the features and will function normally. To continue playing on GFWL, you must maintain a separate installation using the GFWL activation key.”
If you own a retail copy of either game, you’re able to just pop the activation key(s) in Steam.
