OK so maybeeventuallyit’ll become a battle royale and add NFTs

Ubisofthas revealed a new gamecodenamedProject Q, and it’s already putting on a fireproof vest out of the gate — and with Ubisoft, it’s no secret that people are going toimmediatelyside-eye a new multiplayer game announcement.

You know this is an extremely 2022 game reveal when the parent company has to deflect some industry practices, and that’s just what the company did immediatelyfollowingsaid reveal. After showing the initial concept art, Ubisoft noted “by the way, this is not a Battle Royale.Project Qwill feature a variety of PvP modes with one single goal in mind: FUN!” Then followed that up with “We don’t have plansto add NFTsto this game, you can find out more by registering and taking part in the upcoming tests!”

Project Q

Oh, ok then! I guess it’s good that they got that out of the way! But that leaves people in this strange zone where we know more about what the game isn’t than what it is. The “goal of fun” reminds me ofthe infamousBattleborntweetalready. Time will tell what “letting players truly own the experience” even means: but that phrasing was definitely an early tip-off for people to ask about NFTs.

Project Qis in “early development” at Ubisoft, and is currently planned for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Series X/S.. If it follows the current history of crowd-tested online Ubisoft games, it’ll be subject to multiple alpha/beta periods, andmaybe come out sometime in the next three years at minimum.
