On April 9Donald Trump revealed that he was pausing his global tariffs scheme for 90 days, with most levies dropping from as high as 47 percent down to a baseline of 10 percent, and only China, Canada, and Mexico still having the higher set.

Since his news, the world’s economies and stock markets have begun to recover from the inflicted shock, but gamers in the United States and Canada are left with one question following this news—when will they be able to preorder Nintendo Switch 2?

Nintendo initially paused preorders of their upcoming systemon April 4following the tariffs announcements the same week, but now with a 90-day pause, fans are hopeful that Nintendo Switch 2 preorders will reappear, or to at least get an announcement from the company.

But should we expect anything anytime soon?

When will US Switch 2 preorders reopen?

While there is no timing for a Nintendo announcement for Switch 2 preorders, Nintendo has already confirmed that the Switch 2’s release date of June 5 will remain unchanged in the US and Canada.

Destructoid has contacted Nintendo of America for comment on the current plan for taking preorders again in the US ahead of the Nintendo Switch 2’s launch on June 5. We will update this article if we hear anything.

But if we were to speculate, we don’t imagine any announcement anytime soon, maybe until the end of April. The situation in the US is still chaotic, and the president could announce tariff changes on a whim again. We imagine that Nintendo is waiting for signs of either a deal between the US and Japan or more stability before confirming its plans.

There is also the unprecedented idea that tariffs could raise the price of the Switch 2,though many analystsbelieve the Switch 2’s $450 launch price will remain the same, despite Trump’s tariff announcements. It feels like Nintendo is employing a wait-and-see approach, but as time ticks on and the console’s launch gets closer, fans looking to get the console in the US will start to get anxious about their prospects.

If it gets past April and there is still no announcement on preorders for the US and Canada, then that is the time to start worrying as buyers will only have a month to find a console. As such, we expect there to be some kind of announcement from Nintendo hopefully soon but at best, at the end of April. Though nothing has been confirmed.

For now, US fans, all we can do is wait and hope the chaos of the markets settles so that Nintendo has breathing room to feel like they can lock in an announcement.
