On Thursday, Team Coco kicked off a new web series calledClueless Gamer, in which Conan O’Brien tries (and fails) to play a videogame then assigns a review score. And unlikeThe Tommy Wi-Show, it won’t make you feel like you’ve just caught your parents engaging in a bit of afternoon delight.
Conan admits right off the bat that he lacks knowledge and experience compared to seasoned game journos, so he invites his friend and co-worker Aaron Bleyaert to take him through the paces. Instead of having a go at a popular game, the duo jump into the Kinect’sMichael Phelps: Push the Limit. A celebrity-endorsed piece of shovelware coupled with theKinect motion controller of the future? Something tells me they knewexactlywhat they were getting into!

What’s amazing about this mock review is that it legitimately demonstrates just how a poor a gamePush the Limitis. I mean, if Kinect is supposed to be some great boon for “casuals,” why is Conan having such difficulty with it? Not even the seasoned Aaron can get the damn thing to register at times. Also, Conan’s arbitrary review scale at the end is a perfect reflection of many of our own misgivings over the ratings system.
My verdict? If Conan is able to draw a few laughs out of such a terrible game, I’ll gladly look forward to futureClueless Gamerepisodes, when he can hopefully play something less sh*t.
