You know what? It’s been a hot minute since I spoke aboutDoomor its equally influential follow-up,Doom 2. Both staples in the FPS genre, I’m struggling to come to terms with the thought that one day we may stop talking about these classic games.

However, now is not that time, and if you want to experience a veritable smorgasbord of first-person shooting from well-known names, you should definitely check outDoom: Incarnate. This is a mod from user D3athStalker that combinesDoom 2withWolfenstein, allowing you to fill the boots of the latter’s legendary protagonist, BJ Blazkowicz.

Doom 2: a mod showing BJ Blazkowicz from Wolfenstein standing over a horde of dead imps.

This isn’t from old schoolWolfenstein, mind. The mod takes huge inspiration from the series as it’s understood by MachineGames, the studio that brought us the later installments in the franchise. As such, D3athStalker takes cues from the likes ofThe New Order,The Old Blood, andThe New Colossus. In that respect, it combines the old with the new, which is always tasty.

[Insert “but wait, there’s more” reference here]

As well as combining the newerWolfensteingames withDoom 2‘s engine, the mod also incorporates elements from another series:BloodRayne. Essentially, when you boot upDoom: Incarnate, you’ll get to choose whether you play as Blazkowicz or Rayne, or you’re able to let the game randomly select for you.

Whichever character you go for will give you certain traits. As noted on the ModDB description, if you go down theWolfenstein-esque route, you’ll start with a primary and secondary weapon of your choice, as well as a hatchet.

Doom 2: the player fires in a room, as gits spray everywhere.

However, if you want to experience aDoom 2take onBloodRayne, you’ll start with a pair of long blades as your melee, which have higher damage output. However, unlike Blazkowicz, Rayne can’t use health items, but does come with some additional abilities.

Basically, have a tinker and see what outcome works best for you. What I do like about this mod is how it still keeps the originalDoom 2visuals intact, while also gunning for a more MachineGames aesthetic. Again, tasty.
