Third-person shooter starring a fish

It was such a shame to hear thatNeo Aquarium: King of Crustaceanswas not a good videogame. For years, I’ve longed to play a modern take onOdell Down Underthat didn’t take itself seriously — like, at all — andKing of Crustaceanscould have partially scratched that itch. It’s still nice to hear (viaRock, Paper, Shotgun) that a follow-up is happening inNeo Aquarium 2: Ace of Seafood.

The sequel is a third-person shooter in which you control a laser-firing sardine that literally blows up upon being killed. you’re able to try your hand at an early build, which appears to be more of a tech demo than anything,in your browser. And trust me, you’ll want to do that if only to mess around with the game’s destructible environment.

WhileAce of Seafoodisn’tgood, exactly — at least not yet — I’m eager to see the concept fleshed out. Hopefully it will blossom into something greater thanKing of Crustaceans. Something that maybe even normal human beings can play and objectively consider to be a quality experience.
