For a documentary

E.T.for the Atari 2600 has a crazy story behind it, and it’s something any videogame fanshould learn about. Long story short, Atari crushed all the copies ofE.T.they couldn’t sell and buried it under concrete in a landfill.

This was back in 1983, and now here we are 30 years later to find out Canadian-based Fuel Industries plan to excavate the Atari dump site for a documentary based on the Alamogordo landfill it’s located at. The Alamogordo City Commission already approved this, and digging begins on Tuesday.

It’s said that the dump site contains truckloads worth of games, consoles, and other products that Atari just had to get rid of. Historical I find this event kind of cool. But at the same time, people are about to dig up a bunch of broken consoles and games that barely anyone really cares about anymore.
