Mario Kart World’slatest patch notes seem to address a broader issue from the online community, with Nintendo increasing the chances of getting lap-type races in online VS. mode.
Last month’s patch reduced the chance of lap-type races when picking random, and was met with revolts from fans online who felt that Nintendo was railroading racers into playing the game as they intended, instead of giving players options to play as they desired.

Now, included in today’s patch notes, Nintendo has made changes to online VS. modes. The patch notes include a statement that reads, “The team has increased the frequency of lap-type courses appearing in the selection when choosing the next course in ‘VS Race’ and wireless races,” which seems to rectify the changes made last month.
While the patch does allow more options for players to enjoy the three-lap style races, the lack of a permanent option to only play on lapped tracks instead of interlinked courts might still upset a vast majority. But it’s a small but good sign that Nintendo appears to be listening to its community. So maybe there is hope for an additional VS. mode option in the future for circuit courses only after all. Here’s hoping.

Outside of that, here are the full patch notes for those who want to see what else was added in the latest version:
