Retro Rampage Being someone who never really stopped playing games after they reached their expiry date, I spend a lot of time thinking about the flow and evolution of game design. Why, after some successful genres reach a certain age, did the industry just collectively seem to move on? As with any art form, trends constantly emerge in the medium of video games. As is also common, we eventually circle back to the ones we fondly remember, and video games seem to be the most literal when it comes to that....

But who is this mysterious figure? At this morning’sJapan Fighting Game Publisher Roundtableevent, Bandai Namco announced that a fourth season of DLC content will be coming to its popular fighterTekken 7this fall. No specific characters were revealed during the stream, but a trailer advertising the new season ends with an image of a sunset over Mt. Fuji, with the silhouette of a ninja-type figure resting on a pagoda rooftop. WhileTekkenis fairly slight on shinobi – save for Kunimitsu – the accompanying message “WHAT?...

In the Mission Impossible pack A whole lot of IPs are coming toLEGO Dimensionslater this month. For starters you have the predictableHarry PotterandGhostbusterspacks, but there’s some wacky ones in there too. I mean,Mission Impossible— like, the Tom Cruise franchise, in an off-film year? Then there’sAdventure Timeand theA-Team? It’s all part of a “Wave 6” rollout, which add on top of the base game — which for now is not getting a sequel....

One of Ouya’s finest exclusives jumps ship for PC TowerFallis breaking free of its Ouya-exclusive shackles. The archery deathmatch game is on its way to PC, developer Matt Thorson has announced. “Yes, I am working onTowerFallfor PC. But it’s going to take a couple months. There’s going to be a ton of new content,” Thorsonbroadcast via Twitter. He added the enhanced port will be priced somewhere in the neighborhood of $15 to $20....

Baldur’s Gate-inspired CRPGs live on Now that it has beenthoroughly expanded,Pillars of Eternitycan be left to sit and digest while folks work on that Triple Crown achievement. In the meantime, though, Obsidian has a new game in thePillars of Eternitystyle calledTyranny, just announced at Paradox’s press conference at the Game Developers Conference. Paradox is, again, publishing. The two companies announced their partnership at GDC two years ago. Tyrannytakes place, “in a world where evil won,” rather than offer a “good vs evil” story....

All of them unannounced, of course Ubisoft Toronto has five unannounced games in development, two of which are being co-developed with other studios, managing director Jade Raymond revealed at SXSW. “There are definitely a lot of plates spinning,” she said at the Austin, Texas-based event. Previously, Ubisoft Toronto worked onTom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist. According toThe Star, it sounds like more AAA franchises with transmedia potential are on the cards, which comes as no surprise given that there are multiple movies based on Ubisoft properties in the works, includingAssassin’s Creedand even the unreleasedWatch Dogs....

Heroes never die, they just respawn Valve has announced a massive update for their mind bogglingly popular MOBA,Dota 2.Dota 2 Rebornwill be a top-to-bottom overhaul, reworking and tweaking just about every aspect of the game. Chief among these changes is a brand new engine, presumably the move to the long teased Source 2 (although knowing Valve, nothing is certain). Valve is unveiling the changesDota 2 Rebornwill be rolling out in stages....
