WithOverwatch 2now years into a live-service schedule of seasonal content, Blizzard Entertainment may be looking down at their mobile devices for inspiration on where to bring the series next.

That’s right, folks. The world could always use more heroes…on mobile. This information came today from Korean outletMTN, spilling the beans that Blizzard has teamed up withTHE FINALSpublisher Nexon to release an Overwatch MOBA for mobile phones, and it’s being “referred to internally asOverwatch 3.“

Overwatch 2

I’m sure this is going to go over well with Blizzard fans, judging by the company’s history with takingbeloved franchises mobile. But as is the case with any report, this should be taken with a grain of salt for now, as it may be several years before we can get any sort of confirmation.

One hopefully unequivocal piece of good information out of the MTN report is that Blizzard is also trying to find a publisher and developer for something in theStarCraftuniverse, which has been dormant for quite some time. Previously, reports suggested the company may be working on a shooter game to revive that franchise.

HOTS Overwatch D.Va OW3 MOBA

“In the case ofOverwatch Mobile, the condition proposed by Blizzard was ‘distribution rights limited to Korea and Japan,’ which was considered to be out of line with the expectations of domestic game companies that wanted global rights,” the translated report said.StarCrafthas always been a largely successful game in the region.

But, when it comes toOverwatch, its future may be mobile and may be MOBA. Does that excite anyone? Maybe? Personally, not for me. I enjoyOW2as a shooter, and not so much as a mobile game or a MOBA. Could a MOBA work? I guess? I kind of likedHeroes of the Storm, but is it what fans and players want?

I’m not sold on theOverwatch 3angle in any of this. AnOWMOBA may be the third title in the franchise, which is where the number comes from. But for a direct sequel that made the franchise a global phenomenon to be a mobile MOBA after an FPS? It doesn’t make much sense.

Honestly, I’m not sure about any of this, but we could maybe hear more about what the company is planning for its multiple IPs at BlizzCon…in September 2026.
