A collector’s item

It looks likeRodea: The Sky Soldierwill be the Wii’s swan song. Today, NIS America confirmed first edition copies of the Wii U version will come equipped with the original Wii prototype.

The aerial action game was announced for Wii in 2010, but never saw a release. Instead, the project was reworked as a 3DS and Wii U title, which is now planned for an autumn launch.

Rodea: The Sky Soldiercomes fromSonicprogrammer Yuji Naka’s independent studio Prope. The developer is also responsible for experiences likeLet’s Tap,Ivy the Kiwi?, andLet’s Catch.

It’s difficult to imagine anyone wanting to play an inferior rendition of the game, (Has anyone with a Blu-ray player ever used those throw-in DVDs?) but this move is a nice nod to all you collectors out there and anyone who hasn’t yet jumped on the Wii U train. This very well could be the final Wii title to ever see an official release. That sort of thing probably deserves a spot on your shelf.
