Veronica Mars: The early years

We need more games likeGone Home. The exploration-basedGone Homecomes from The Fullbright Company, which is composed of three ex-BioShockdevelopers. From the looks of it, the ambiance and environmental story-telling that makeBioshockso good are in full effect here.

You return home after several years abroad to find your house empty and your family gone. Because the game takes place in the 90’s, it’s a bit more reasonable to suggest you wouldn’t have known about this earlier when your mom wouldn’t answer your Facebook pokes from the in-plane wi-fi. True to the 90’s spirit,Gone Homealso features some edgy 90’s music. NoElastica, no buy. Kidding. Would be rad, though.

Your task is to explore the house and analyze clues in order to find out just what happened. As aMystfan, it’s nice to see a proper exploration and detection game releasing. It’s a style that is woefully underutilized. I still need to play the point-and-clickBlade Runnergame, which I hear is one of too few examples of proper detective work in a game. HopefullyGone Homeadds itself to that shortlist. It certainly looks like a contender.

Gone Homeis coming out on August 15 for PC, Mac, and Linux. You can purchase it through Steam or directly through thegame’s websitefor $20.
