There have been rumors flying around that an official remaster ofOblivionmay be in the pipeline. But I’ll tell you what’s not a rumor:Skyblivion. This is a project that’s very real, and we’re getting closer to a launch date (finally).
What began in 2012 has blossomed into something rather special. In the latest video from the team, the unofficial fan remake ofThe Elder Scrolls 4is coming along nicely. In fact, it seems as though it’s almost done. While we wait, the volunteers behindSkyblivionhave treated us to another 40 minutes of footage, complete with general information about the game.

In the video above, we get to see a number of quests fromOblivionthat have been lovingly recreated. However, the project still has some work to be done before it launches, and we’re told that the team would have released it sooner were it not for the kinks that need ironing out.
So what isSkyblivion?
If you’re unaware,Skyblivionis a complete rebuild ofElder Scrolls 4done through the Creation Engine, i.e. the engine that was used to makeSkyrim. Now you know where the team behind it got the name. It’s not an official remake and is being helmed by fans and volunteers working tirelessly on the game.
It should also be said that this is not to be confused with therumoredOblivionremaster, which may or may not be arriving in 2025. Coincidentally,Skyblivionis also set to release this year, according to thewebsite. It’s also going to be completely free and, if you want to help out, there is avolunteer formyou can fill out.

So what will you need to have installed in order to play it? Again, the website can fill you in on that. Basically, you’ll still need to have official copies of bothSkyrim: Special EditionandOblivion, as well as their respective DLCs, in order to check outSkyblivion, so do bear that in mind when the project releases.
