As-is, it’s pretty straightforward

Having playedFortnite‘s battle royale mode since it launched, I can attest to dealing with platform-based issues.

After sneakily showing the world that yes,Sonycando cross-platform play years ago, the console giant acquiesced, and opened the flood gates for true cross-platform play. It was the first major instance ofeveryplatform (mobile included) working together, but not everything is perfect (and maybe never will be, due to the adversarial nature of console publishing).

There are some known kinks in terms of V-Bucks not showing up on specific platforms, seemingly due to marketplace and rights issues (likely out of Epic’s hands); but recently an Xbox-centric problem sprang up regarding the new subscription service.Epic talks about it on their most recent blog post for the game, explaining that the Xbox platform had issues redeeming its rewards, and there were “early attempt” problems with unsubscribing.

As a result, Epic (in addition to responding to help tickets and fixing the problems) is giving out a free Members Only emote. According to the blog, “past, present, and new Fortnite Crew members will receive the Emote upon logging in anytime from now until June 26, 2025.”

At first it sounded ridiculous — adding a subscription to a free-to-play game —  but like most thingsFortnite, it feels perfectly optional. I’ve been trying it out for science this past month, and it’s incredibly straightforward and easy to use (or get out of).
