In 1992, Electronic Arts releasedDesert Strike: Return to the Gulf —a shoot ’em up that had the player control an Apache helicopter. The game was a commercial success and is fondly remembered by many. As game publishers tend to do when a game is fondly remembered,Desert Strikemay be making a comeback.
Last week, EAfiled two trademarksrelated to theDesert Strikename. EA hasn’t weighed in on the IP in any other capacity, so we’ll have to wait to find out what its plans are. However, filing theappropriatepaperworkwith the United States Patent and Trademark Office is usually step number one.

It’s certainly not locked in yet, but it looks like EA might take the fight back to the desert. While conventional logic says any newDesert Striketitle or remake will probably feature more helicopter piloting, I’m holding out for a game about meticulously punching sand.
