“At The Gates” is the studio’s first project

If you’ve worked as a designer at both Firaxis and Stardock, then you must really know what you’re doing when it comes to strategy games. Jon Shafer was lead designer onCivilization V, but now he’s broken away to form his own studio entitled Conifer games. Obviously learning a thing from Sid Meier, the studio’s first game will be a strategy game entitledJon Shafer’s At The Gates.

At The Gatesis, unsurprisingly, a strategy title set during the final years of the Roman Empire. Beset at all sides by rampaging barbarian tribes, you will control one such tribe in an attempt to carve out your own empire on the ashes of the once mighty Rome.

Also unsurprisingly,At The Gatesis aKickstarter fundedproject with a fairly modest goal of $40,000, with just over $11,000 already raised. This seems like an interesting project for strategy fans looking for an old-school empire builder. Look, it’s got hexagons and everything!
