Sony Computer Entertainment chief Kaz Hirai has stated that the PlayStation Vita’s sold over 500,000 units to date. Unusually for a Sony man, he did not hide behind “shipped” figures this time, instead using actual sales.

The Vita launched on December 17 in Japan, where itdidn’t enjoy the fastest of starts. Nevertheless, we’re yet to see how it fares in North America and Europe, and there’s every chance of the system gaining ground over time.
