Capcom’sSeth Killian recently told Destructoidthat we cannot begin to understand the way that the heads of his company think. He was right. For starters, Capcom plans to put out 75 titles in this fiscal year, which is already mind-blowing. Even more surprising is how these titles will break down by console. The 360 will get 12 games (4 more than last year), the PS3 will get 16 (5 more than last year), the DS will get 15 (3 more than last year), the PSP gets 19 (1 less then last year), 2 for PC (1 less than year) and 6 on the Wii (2 less than last year).
That’s a big move towards the PS3/360, despite the fact that the company openly states that two of their big-budget PS3/360 games,Bionic CommandoandDark Void, were amongst their “weakest” of last year. They also go on to blame the weak sales of those games on the fact that they were co-developed by Western developers, ignoring the fact that their poor performances were just as likely due to the fact that they were outclassed by similar games from (you guessed it) Western developers. Then they tell us that they predict thatDead Rising 2, a game Capcom co-created with Western developers, will sell 3 million units this year.
Yeah, I know, it doesn’t make sense to me either.
There is a lot of other fun stuff in this report, all of which can be readright here in PDF form. There is even a video of the presentation, all in Japanese, given by a middle aged man in a suit. The part that got me most excited was hearing the words “Mega Man Online” come out of a real Capcom-man’s mouth. The other exciting thing was thinking about how many of those 16 PS3 games may be Wii-to-PS Move ports with additional content. I’d be happy to buyZack and Wiki,Okami Wii Edition,Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition, and evenDead Rising: Chop Till You Dropagain if Capcom makes them pretty and fun enough on the PS3.
